Carpet cleaning can be a very tedious activity especially during high traffic. What do I mean by high traffic? This is the time when, the number of visitors coming to your house increases or when your kids are home on holiday. It is advisable that you clean your carpet at least once per week. The most common way of cleaning the carpet is by vacuuming. Frequent vacuuming of your carpet prolongs the lifespan of your carpet, the best likely cleaner is the “robotic vacuum cleaner”. The following are some of the tips that will make your work easier.
Divide the floor space into quadrants
You should divide your room into sizeable quadrants in order to make your cleaning easier. This will ensure that you effectively clean every corner of carpet, since you will be working on each section separately before moving to the next. This way you will make sure that you’ve cleaned from wall to wall. You should take your time when undertaking this activity. One pass with a high powered upright is not enough. Pass over the quadrants several times and work slowly to ensure adequate suction of all ground-in dust and dirt.
Places where people sit or move their feet need special attention
These areas are the most vulnerable areas to dust and dirt. When you are cleaning pay special attention to them. You may even decide to clean these places severally if it is convenient. The other less susceptible areas can be vacuumed only twice since they are not that dirty. Vacuum other places of high traffic as appropriate with a crisscross of over lapping patterns.
3. Applying soil retardants
You should always apply soil retardants to your carpets after consulting technicians in this sector. Always use professional equipments and the recommended application techniques. These retardants can be applied to newly acquired carpets or freshly cleaned ones.
4. Fighting odors
Some times when you are cleaning you may realize some foul smell. Well, this is caused by the vacuum cleaner. However, this should not scare you as you can easily overcome it. Simply add some baking soda to your vacuum cleaner to reduce the odor.
5. Avoiding stains
As soon as you realize a spill on your carpet, it is very advisable that you clean it as soon as possible. Since the spill may quickly turn into a stain. And as you know stains may be very stubborn at times. Use paper towels to absorb the mess or towels which ever you may find. Change the towels to avoid spreading the mess. Then use a solvent material to absorb the mess. Usually club soda is the best option. Simply saturate the area with the solvent and then wipe it with a paper towel to remove the stain. For dry stains there are vacuum cleaners that run on their own and can be programmed to detect the dirt. It may be a good solution if you don’t always have time to vacuum on your own.
6. Steam cleaning
It is also known as hot water extraction. It is actually high pressure application and a bit of vacuuming. You can always rent the machine or acquire yours. However, I advise you to acquire yours as it is both cheap and convenient. For best results while using this technique, always use carpet cleaning solution specifically recommended by your manufacturer.
