Other Uses For Your Kitchen Appliances That You Haven’t Thought Of

Your trusty kitchen appliances have many hidden uses that they were not originally intended for. Here are some clever and innovative uses for your kitchen aids that not only save you time and money but makes mundane chores in the kitchen little bit more interesting!

Poaching Fish In The Dishwasher

May seem an odd method but the heat and steam from a dishwasher makes an effective poacher! Simply add a bit of oil and seasoning to your chosen fish, wrap the fish in foil, place on the top rack of the dishwasher, and put it on the desired cycle and voila! Just remember not to add any salts/soap. Salmon is known for performing particularly well by this method and in many different makes of dishwashers.

Cook Using Your Coffee Maker

If time is of the essence your coffee maker can be used to cook and heat a range of liquids, soup, noodles and even pasta! Ideal for people on the go or who wants a quick, no-fuss snack. Just be careful not to overfill the coffee maker especially when making pasta as it will expand and could make a real mess.

Wash Underwear In The Microwave

Microwaves not only provide us with convenient super-speedy cooking, you can even use them to wash your socks and (non-delicate) underwear! For when you don’t have time to put the washing machine on, place your underwear in a bowl of soapy water for around 10 minutes on a high power setting.

Use Your Food Dehydrator As A Humidifier

A food dehydrator may be a kitchen appliance that if you have one already you probably barely use. A food dehydrator helps you to preserve and prolong the life of fresh food by removing moisture from the food without taking away the nutrient content. But a food dehydrator also makes an excellent humidifier for the home; just simply fill the spaces with water which will evaporate, instantly humidifying the area. You can even add some aromatherapy essence to the water for a lovely relaxing fragrance.

A Clothes Dryer As A Makeshift Compost Bin

An unused clothes dryer or even a washing machine is an excellent place to store your compost as the warm environment can help the compost to break down faster.

Renew Your Jeans In The Freezer

Most people know freezers are excellent for reviving a damaged hard drive long enough to retrieve lost data but few people know that you can clean your jeans in the freezer. The freezing temperature helps to kill any bacteria and give your old jeans a new lease of life restoring that ‘brand new’ feeling and appearance. Simply place your jeans in a suitable sealable bag and leave the jeans in the freezer for about a week.

Hard Boil Eggs In The Kettle

Make use of an old kettle and use it to make perfect hard-boiled eggs! Simply fill the kettle with water, add the eggs and boil for 5 minutes and there you have it! Just remember you will need to keep the lid on the kettle open and keep a close eye on the water to make sure it doesn’t evaporate.
